Call for EMR volunteers and upcoming quiz night!

Experiencing Marine Reserves are looking for volunteers to help out with the upcoming summer season in Auckland and tickets for the annual EMR fundraiser quiz held in New Plymouth are now for sale!

Experiencing Marine Reserves is looking for Auckland Volunteers for the summer season!

In-water training is at Glenfield Pools and theory at the Dolphin Underwater Club rooms at Lake Pupuke (involves an intro to EMR + photography workshop + dinner).

This event is designed to help train our volunteers for the upcoming season and to celebrate the last season with our existing crew. Whether you are new this season or you feel like you need some additional training all are welcome. Senior guides from last season are appreciated to help with the pool training.

Starting with schools in New Plymouth, Experiencing Marine Reserves Taranaki has grown their programme over the past 2 years to reach communities in South Taranaki.  They have recently partnered with successful Curious Minds projects like Project Reef Life and Seachange Surveys which have inspired locals to participate in citizen science and develop kaitiakitanga / guardianship over their local marine environments.

Since Conservation Week 2018, the Nga Motu Marine Reserve society, which facilitates the EMR programme in Taranaki, have held an annual EMR Fundraiser Quiz to raise awareness of the programme and contribute funds to their summer community snorkel events at Ngamotu Beach.

EMR Taranaki Regional Coordinator, Elvisa Van Der Leden, sees the annual fundraiser event as a great way to celebrate conservation week each year. The fundraiser provides the community an opportunity to support marine conservation education without having to get wet!
