New Maritime Safety Laws came into force on February 1, 2001, affecting anyone operating or providing a vessel or six meters or less, for gain or reward. Vessels must be under either a Safe Ship Management System or a Safe Operational Plan. Please contact us for a list of authorised persons.

Persons operating these vessels must have an appropriate Certificate of Competency. New Zealand Underwater has authorisation from the Maritime New Zealand to receive applications for, and issue certificates of competency to, persons wishing to gain a rating as a Master of a Small Commercial Dive Boat.  There are a number of registered Maritime Education Trainers offering training for this commercial certification. If you'd like to know more please contact us and/or visit the Maritime New Zealand website. To locate a Trainer near you click here.
